VineyardsWhite Hawk Vineyard, Santa BarbaraWe are thrilled at the quality of the grapes that we have selected from White Hawk for both our 2005 and 2006 Syrah vintages. This impressive Santa Barbara vineyard is very different. It is 21 miles west of the Pacific and 2 miles north of Los Alamos. It’s planted at an elevation of 900 feet on pure sand that immediately drains off water and nutrients and forces the vines to work extra-hard to survive. The Syrah has a strong core of acidity complimented by elements of meat and blackberries. The vineyard is farmed using sustainable and primarily organic viticulture. The yields are minuscule and the berries intense. Galleron Road Vineyard, Napa Valley (Rutherford)As in Bordeaux, Sauvignon Blanc tends to do extremely well where Cabernet grows, and Rutherford produces some mighty fine Cabernet. The vineyard, located not surprisingly on Galleron Road, is the source of our first two Sauvignon Blanc releases for 2006 and 2007. 2006: Crisp citrus: grapefruit and lemon-lime combined with minerality and a hint of herbalness that makes Sauvignon Blanc a great warm weather wine. 2007: Lime, lemongrass and gooseberry combined with melon and a broad mouth-filling palate with a clean finish that is begging to be combined with food. |
